The Elements of Moulding

From roofing to rugs, there is an incalculable amount of material that is purchased to construct a home. With so many products to choose from, it can be overwhelming when having to sift through a variety of specifics. BMC, a residential construction service and building materials supply company, distributes an impressive collection of product.

BMC works with White River Hardwoods to provide an extensive product line of beautiful hardwood mouldings and hand-carved woodcarvings. From stain-grade Poplar and Red Oak mouldings to the ornamentally embellished, White River has become a leading source for crown moulding. Combining a vast array of products with their expertise and educational component, White River provides the designer information at their fingertips, as well as assisting the homeowner in reducing the stress in making their moulding selections.

White River offers the following helpful guidelines for selecting mouldings:

• Note ceiling heights and personal preferences as well as the overall style of the home, when discussing the type of moulding that will best fit a room.

• Crown mouldings define ceilings and add a heightened effect to any room. Don’t be afraid to use a larger crown to add interest.

• Glazing a simple or embellished moulding adds a silky sheen, and will accentuate any motifs.

• When alternating mouldings, avoid using too many different patterns. Always leave some unadorned spaces for the eye to rest.

• Use different types of mouldings that will complement each other to create interest: crowns, friezes, and panel moulds.

• Use small supportive motifs to complement larger motifs, instead of all large or all small patterns.

White River Hardwoods will be conducting an informative and educational CEU session for designers, at the upcoming ASID Meeting hosted by BMC Austin – Tuesday, July 19, 5:30 P.M.- 7:00 P.M. BMC Showroom, 11212 Metric Blvd Suite 300, Austin, TX.
