If I Live in an Apartment or Condo, Do I Still Need Home Security?
Many high-rising or gated apartment and condo complexes offer restricted access, delivering a level of protection that surpasses free-standing houses or open-air facing apartments. However, it may still be advised to set-up a home security system, depending on how you answer the following questions:
Are you in the habit of leaving your door unlocked? – If so, can you say with confidence that you trust every resident of your building. Even if access is restricted to residents, all residents have equal access to your hallway.
Do you let people in if they can’t find their key or are carrying something? – Crooks can be crafty. If the atmosphere in your complex is relaxed in that residents let individuals in without proof of residence. Being helpful can sometimes take the form of being irresponsible, and your home could be in harm’s way.
Do your neighbors or other nearby residents have a lot of guests? – More unfamiliar non-residents in close proximity to your quarters makes it all the more likely your stuff isn’t safe. Sure you’re neighbors and hallmates may be fine people, but who says they’re the best judge of character?
A home security system is never a bad investment, regardless of whether you feel your person or possessions are in direct danger. You can’t put a price on peace of mind, and it’s far more convenient to pay a little along the way than deal with the unfortunate prospect of replacing precious valuables and/or expensive equipment.
