The Basics of Bathroom Remodeling
There are a lot of aspects you will need to consider when you want to remodel your bathroom. Every little decision you make will affect the end result especially if it is a small bathroom because toilets, showers, fixtures, faucets and vanities will have to fit into a finite space. Thus, you will have to consider your choices carefully and here are a few basics you can run through to guide you.
The first thing is de-cluttering your bathroom. You need to have a good grasp of the space you have. So, take out all the shower curtains, window coverings and all those accessories in your bathroom. Then, you will need to take your budget into account. Else, you might just go over budget. Thirdly, consider the things you can save. For example, if your shower stall or tub is in good shape, why not keep it and just spruce it up with rich, new shower curtains? You can also keep your toilet if it is still functioning properly and the color suits you new color scheme.
Next, there is your bathroom flooring. Do not underestimate them as they are crucial in water considerations on the surface and the damp air. Since bathrooms are designed to seal out water and moisture to prevent the floors and lower walls from getting waterlogged, rotting begins here. Therefore, you have to consider a good quality linoleum or tile and check for signs of rot. Replacing the floor and lower walls with a waterproof gypsum wall board or cement board is a good investment plan if you are doing a complete bathroom remodeling.
Painting is an easy way to spruce up your bathroom. Putting on a new sheet of paint with the same colors can also make the place look new. You can choose a two-tone design to create an illusion of a bigger room. Another way to spruce up your bathroom is by choosing the right lighting. A different array of light will make it a new room. Replacing your toilet, sink and bath can help you in setting up a bold new look. Bathroom ventilation is also an important thing to consider. A good quality fan is what you should get if you’ve sealed up your bathroom with a new floor. Else, moisture can get under the paints, doors may warp and mold may appear.
Always remember that function of a bathroom comes first and form follows function. There is also the toilet and toilet flushing to take into consideration. While a small round toilet bowl is good for smaller rooms, the larger elongated bowl is built for greater comfort and larger spaces. If you are concerned about conservation, consider high-efficiency toilets that consume fewer gallons per flush. You also have a wide variety of vanity to choose from and vanity heights must not be neglected. A higher sink means lesser bend from the user. Not to mention that it is wise to choose a finish option that complements the rest of the finished in the rest of your bathroom. Although accessorizing the new bathroom space can be fun, keep in mind of the space and the big picture.
